Patients begin to feel better sooner and regain the ability to fully engage in their lives. When other medications haven’t worked, Spravato® offers a meaningful, evidence-based option for relief. Reconnect with yourself—discover the difference Spravato® can make.
How Spravato Works
Esketamine, the active ingredient in Spravato, has a unique mechanism that targets different pathways in the brain to those affected by other known antidepressants. Unlike many other antidepressants, Spravato is administered via nasal spray, allowing it to be quickly absorbed.
Spravato works to rebalance certain chemical messengers in the brain that affect mood. It targets the neurotransmitter glutamate, a chemical substance in the brain that plays a significant role in learning and memory, and one of the most common neurotransmitters in the brain. If you have treatment-resistant depression, our Dallas team can assess whether Spravato could be the breakthrough you have been looking for.
What to Expect During Treatment
We have designed the Spravato® experience at Zoe Psychiatry to be safe, comfortable, and relaxing.
- Self-Administration: You will administer the nasal spray yourself under the supervision of our medical team in our private, comfortable treatment suite.
- Observation Period: Because Spravato® can cause temporary dissociation or sedation, you will relax in our clinic for two hours after administration. During this time, our staff monitors your blood pressure and ensures you are comfortable.
- Heading Home: You cannot drive for the rest of the day, so you will need a friend or family member to drive you home. Most patients return to their normal routine the next morning after a restful sleep.
The typical course of treatment consists of two sessions per week for the first month, tapering down as your symptoms improve.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may be eligible for Spravato® if you:
- Are diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD)
- Have not responded to two or more antidepressants
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have no history of certain health risks, such as uncontrolled blood pressure
All patients begin with a psychiatric evaluation to determine eligibility and the best course of care.
